So.. I kinda felt obligated to blog about my 21st birthday party because I know it's something I want to remember. I've thought really long about this - should I have a 21st birthday party? Many people would say yes bcuz it'd be fun, no bcuz it'd be about everyone else but yourself so what's the point.... But it was when xinyi told me that she never regretted her 21st party that I was rly determined to do it :)
So I went ahead and pushed myself to do the first thing - book the venue! I didn't give much thought into this and simply just chose a chalet within my budget, and I chose Aloha Changi Fairypoint Seaview Chalet 3. I wish I had chosen a chalet at Aloha Loyang though, so my guests won't have to travel so far into the east. The reason I chose Fairypoint is because it's huge and there won't be any space constraints. Thanks zen for booking the chalet for me!
After booking the chalet, I told my family over lunch and they were getting kinda excited abt it! Which makes it all the more fun to plan the party. We discussed over the theme and I told them that I want my theme colours to be tiffany blue and white - so we thgt why not Winter Wonderland? A few other ideas struck but I think none rly stood out. I actually thgt why not Summertime or smth along that line but then it'd be orange which is one of the few colours I dislike haha. My mother naturally worried about the food and my eldest sister took care of all the decorations. Iektarts (my second sist) was in charge of the cake! So basically if we were a production team, my mom would be the food planner, my sister the artistic director and iektarts the events planner. Oh ok and my dad is obviously logistics.
As the days drew closer, I decided on Stamford Catering because I rly liked the butter rice and it's very affordable. Who knew that on the actual day, I was so busy that I didn't get to eat at all hahaha. And I'm really very thankful for my family because I basically didn't have anything much to worry about :)
My mom also prepared jelly, agar agar, ice kachang (wah apparently hot fave cuz damn fun to play with) and BBQ food. The sister also prepared the decorations until 5am the day before and I was just sleeping comfortably in hall. Actually that week itself quite sian, cause I had a lot of school work undone and had to worry about birthday going wrong haha. But it rly turned out well and now I have the time to catch up (but i'm blogging about it instead)
At around 730+, I suddenly heard someone say "eh ice cream come already" and I was like o_o what ice cream??? Since when got ice cream at my party, already winter wonderland still eat ice cream?
Turns out my sister surprised me with an ice cream van!!! Wtf win liao seriously, birthday also got ice cream van. Free flow ice cream for guests which is damn awesome la. But then it was 7+ already and I was like omg where are my guests?! Are the ice cream gonna go wasted hahhaha. But thank god they started coming in 5mins later. Like ALL of them. Worries were unfounded!!!
So here's the production team for my birthday!!
Total damage for the birthday is almost $1.5k (ya wtf I didn't expect so much) - I didn't and don't want to count in detail, but i guess I'd still say it's worth it. What I learned about throwing a 21st birthday party, or any other party, is that it's never really about yourself, and that is okay. It might not have crossed my mind before the day, but at the party I really wished that everyone's stomach is filled and that they were comfortable and at ease!
Will post pictures with everyone else later. Toodles. Super thankful for everyone who was able to attend my birthday party and all the gifts (I really didn't expect a lot and I was kidding when I said on facebook that I wanted a big fat ang pao hahahahha seriously.)
